Week 1 – Tales and Fables      tales and fables

29th & 30th July     or     31st July & 1st August

Explore the galleries as you hunt for the evidence behind two of ancient Egypt’s most well known stories. Learn the tale of the ‘Doomed Prince’ while you make your very own shadow puppets to bring him to life. Then listen to the story of the ‘Shipwrecked Sailor’ who washes up on a mysterious island as you make your own ancient Egyptian style reed boats to return him to the safety of Egypt.

Week 2 – Kings and Queens  kingqueen

5th & 6th August     or     7th & 8th August

Become the Pharaoh or his Great Royal Wife for a day and experience the life of ancient Egyptian royalty. As king you must uphold your duty to protect Egypt from the forces of chaos as you make your own model war chariots and golden fly amulets to symbolise your military power. As Queens you will get the chance to make your very own beaded collars inspired by those on display that once belonged to real ancient Egyptian princesses.

Week 3 – Egyptian Art and Writing   art and writing

 12th & 13th August     or     14th & 15th August

Travel back in time and become an ancient Egyptian artisan as you first learn all about the Egyptian writing system of Hieroglyphs and explore the unique art style of the ancient Egyptians. With your new found skills you will get the chance to create a giant wall mural based on a real ancient Egyptian temple scene, use hieroglyphs to write your own magical book of spells on papyrus paper that you make yourself, and decorate your very own Canopic jars to take home with you.

Week 4 – Pyramids, Temples and Tombs  pyramids temples tombs

19th & 20th August     or     21st & 22nd August

Have you ever been curious about the great pyramids of ancient Egypt, or how about the famous tombs found in the Valley of the Kings? If so then this is the workshop for you! You will explore the great architecture of the ancient Egyptians, make your own ‘mud’ bricks, mini pyramids, and decorate your very own temples. You will also get the chance to build your own sphinx models out of clay and design the most wonderful tombs fit for a Pharaoh.

Week 5 – Egyptian Archaeology  archaeology

 26th & 27th August     or     28th & 29th August

Have you ever wanted to be an archaeologist and discover history? Then now’s your chance!
