Hes-vases
Hes-vases were used for pouring liquid offerings to the gods and to the deceased. The word ‘hes’ means praise or favour.
W1014. This shows a hes-vase made of marl clay and dating to the 12th Dynasty. There are others on display in the Egypt Centre.
The Centre has a coffin which belonged to a lady called Iwemhesetmwt (W1982). Her name refers to praising the goddess Mwt.
