W475b

W475bPtah-Sokar-Osiris figure belonging to the Lady of the House Ptahiridis.

Ptah-Sokar-Osiris figure for Lady of the House Ptahsen, daughter of Horbes and Lady of the House Ptahirdis. ‘Lady of the House’ (nbt-pr) was the most common title for married women. This title may be used to show that the woman is the legitimate wife (Whale 1989, passim).

The figure has a green face. Green was a colour of rebirth. In the case on body coverings there are several beaded faces which are green. Green was the colour of the fresh green plants which spring up annually after the Inundation of the Nile. Elsewhere in the gallery you will see gods with green faces.

The figure also has bead netting. Again elsewhere in the gallery you will see Osiriform gods with bead netting. The garland collar emphasises the divine nature and resurrection qualities of the figure.

The stump to which an atef crown would have been attached can be seen.

The style of this figure shows that it dates to the Late Period, probably Dynasty 25 or 26 (747-525 BC).
