W2020. Third Intermediate Period Shabti

W2020

Third Intermediate Period mummiform shabti in pale blue faience with hoes and hieroglyphs in black. The shabti has a tripartite wig and a fillet as well as a basket on his back. There is a single column of inscription which appears to include the a name, part of which reads ‘sr’. This is item is 111mm high.

By the Third Intermediate Period shabtis were mass produced and one shabti for every day of the year was commonly placed in a tomb.

This was transfer to us from National Museum of Wales Cardiff and originally part of the collection of Lord Aberdare. This item appears to belong to the same group as W2023 which has the same inscription.
