‘The Young Surveyor and the General: Petrie, Pitt-Rivers and the development of archaeology in Egypt’.

It has long been known that two of the most famous archaeologists in the history of the discipline were acquainted, but how much of an influence was Pitt-Rivers on Petrie? This talk will look at the activities of these two individuals in the development of archaeology in late 19th century, with particular reference to the development of archaeology in Egypt.
