Pyramids and Sphinx
The Sphinx in 1917 with the Pyramid of Khufu/Cheops in the background. The name ‘sphinx’ which means ‘strangler’ was given to lion figures with human heads by the Greeks. The Pyramid of Khufu is also known as ‘The Great Pyramid’. For over 3,800 years the Great Pyramid was the tallest artificial structure in the world. Both Pyramid and Sphinx are over 4000 years old.
