Gods, Goddesses and Demons

Gods and goddesses tend to be supernatural beings who had cult centres at which they were worshiped. Demons are usually classed as supernatural beings who were not the deified dead but were not worshipped at cult centres (at least until the New Kingdom). There is however, overlap between the groups. Demons also sometimes overlap with the spirits of the deceased in that they are often listed together in protective spells.

Sometimes, animals could be used as representations of gods on earth. For example the Buchis bull was a representation of the god Re or Osiris, though had associations with Montu.

In addition we have several objects who appear to be gods through their animal form, though we are not sure which gods are intended. For example, feline-headed god/goddesses could be Hathor, Neith, Isis Sekhmet, etc.
