Preservation of the collection, and thus collection management, is the basis of any museum. Without the collection there would be no museum. Collections are fundamental to the defining and workings of a museum. The acquisition and disposal policy, conservation strategy and documentation are central to this and are a requirement of accreditation.
Education at the Egypt Centre is as defined by Inspiring Learning for All and uses the collection to deliver a service for all ages and abilities. Education, includes teaching and learning, research, acquiring of skills, inspiration, etc., and involves a variety of resources including the shop sales point. Education also relates to staff and volunteer training but also personal development.
Widening participation makes explicit our aim to reach as diverse an audience as possible and to incorporate all groups in the life of the museum and thus the University. Thus the two audiences of ‘University’ and ‘Public’ are incorporated.
